What’s it take to run Facebook?

Well here is some insight.  I especially like the part where they talk about 25 TB of daily logs.  That’s a lot of Farm Town!

What’s on your mind?

Everyone should have to read this before creating a Facebook account.  Thanks CNN!

Twitter + Popularity = Target

Just in case you were unaware why Twitter had downtime this morning, it was a result of a Denial of Service (DOS) attack (follow the link if you want an explanation because it’s far too long and boring for most of you).  For all you Twitterfreaks out there, you can always check the status of twitter by using this handy little blog found here.  About the only thing I do on Twitter anymore is have it update new stories here on the site (which is not that often).  But I’ve been trying to use it a little more just if I have a thought or idea or story that I want the few followers I have to see.  After it became so mainstream that everyone was using it, it really became stupid to the tech community.  That’s really the case with everything cool that comes out that us tech people sieze and use and really enjoy.  I can think up a long line of things I was using long before everyone else even thought they’d be fun or serve a purpose.  Way to ruin all the fun you non-technical people!!  j/k

If you were unaware of the outage then just move along…

4:22PM UPDATE:  Talk of the DOS attack could stem from a new strand of the Koobface Virus on the net.  Koobface uses both Facebook and Twitter (hence the play on words Koobface-Facebook) to spread its payload, two of the three sites that were hit. PCMag.com’s Security Watch blog has reported on Koobface using Twitter as well as a new variant that preys on Facebook users. Both tease users with some sort of interesting video, then ask the user to download a “codec” that actually contains the worm itself. Then the process repeats itself.  So be careful fellow Facebook users when you see that message from a friend saying to ‘click here to see ___’.  You should always use your best judgement when getting messages from friends on any social networking site!

Bye Bye MySpace

Because of lack of use, I cancelled my MySpace account this morning.  About the only thing I was getting out of it these days was birthday reminders, which was not worth the tons of other spam I was recieving.  I guess it would be different if I was truly using it, I guess the novelty wore off as time went on.  The social networking site Facebook is so much better than MySpace at this point, and I really do not like all of the customization that MySpace allows, since that allows malicious code to also be written into pages.  So look for me on Facebook if you’re into those social networking sites.
