Fantasy Football 2009

With the NFL season about 15 days away, it’s that time of year again for Fantasy Football.  We had our draft this past Monday and I didn’t do exceptionally great, but my team has the opportunity (like everyone else’s) to do well.  I ended up with the final pick in each round which alloted me two picks at once.  This would be the theme every round, with me lining up two picks and trying to field a team.  Here’s my lineup after the draft.

Matt Ryan
Brett Favre
Thomas Jones
Brandon Jacobs
Le`Ron McClain
Andre Johnson
Bernard Berrian
Chris Chambers
Michael Jenkins
Jeremy Maclin
Dallas Clark
Rob Bironas
Green Bay D/ST

Farve was a final pick, just in case…

Wish me luck!

Playing With Your Heart

I have to learn to not play fantasy football with my heart, and start using my head. I have in the past (including this past weekend) held off from playing players that are going against the Saints because I do not want to pull for them to beat the home team. So I sat Santana Moss this past weekend, and it cost me the game. I ended up losing by 20 points, and Santana would have scored 32 for me if I had played him.

So the lesson learned for the rest of the season? Learn to play who needs to play, not based on who they are playing!

GD SANTANA MOSS!!!

Team Bushhog Lives Again!

That’s right folks, it’s Fantasy Football time once again.  The NFL Season started last night as the defending Super Bowl champion NY Giants defeated the Washington Redskins 16-7.  I had two players in that game, which were on my bench that faired pretty well (Santana Moss & Brandon Jacobs)

I managed to squeak out an ok team through an automated draft on FoxSports.  We usually draft face-to-face, but because of Hurricane Gustav our Commish decided it would be best to have a failsafe as our draft went automated at 3:00am on Wendesday.

My team draft results are below.

Notice something funny with my wide recievers?  Look at that last name…

That’s right, it’s official.  Chad Johnson is now Chad Ocho Cinco!!

I’m pretty happy with my team, although I think I did not understand the purpose of ranking as I drafted four Running Backs in the first four rounds.  Early on it looks like my only questionable position will be Quarterback.  Hopefully Hasslebeck can get it done, but I can see myself putting in Schaub or McNabb based on matchups.  If not I can always grab a hot hand hopefully from Free Agency or trade someone.

Really looking forward to this season!  Hope if you play Fantasy you’re having a good time this opening weekend with laptop & TV blaring!!

march madness

So I just got done filling out my bracket for a friend’s March Madness tournament.  I watch very little college basketball nowadays, much less than I used to watch.  I just cannot get into basketball like I used to, and I honestly cannot explain it.  This leads to me picking teams based on ranking, throwing in the occasional upset to make it look like I know what I am doing.  I’m sure that I’ll be out of the running by the second round, but there’s always that chance that some of my longshots will pay off.  It’s quite funny to look at the bracket today and wonder who the heck is Drake?

I’m so into football now year round, listening to Sirius NFL Radio, watching NFL network, reading NFL websites.  This does not really leave much room for other sports.  Playing fantasy football does that to someone I guess, by ‘that’ I mean makes you want to know the latest news year round.  I can remember when during the NFL draft I would get the full news of what happened during the off season, free agency and other team moves all in about twenty minutes before the draft started.  Being completely overwhelemed at the fact that certain teams dropped so-and-so, and picked up so-and-so.  There have been a lot of moves so far this off season, with many big name players.

But even though I’m so up to date with Football,  I do know that the Yankees play the Red Sox tonight in spring training…

Ramrod Wins Mocklin 2007 FFL!

In their inaugural season, Ramrod wins Mocklin 2007 Fantasy Football League.  No final scores have been reported as of yet, but going into Monday Night Football, Ramrod was beating Twin Turbo 73-34.  Season point leader Twin Turbo was muffled over the weekend by stellar performances by Ramrod’s Braylon Edwards and Chicago D/ST.  Ramrod’s performance was also in large to Ryan Grant for Green Bay, Desmond Clark from Chicago and Sage Rosenfels from Texas.

After being ridiculed by the draft room for picking Chicago’s D/ST in the 5th round, using them to achieve victory and bring home their first championship made it that much sweeter.

Humble pie anyone?

Ramrod to play for Mocklin Championships

Team Ramrod

After defeating Dogpile 54 to 47 in the playoffs, Team Ramrod  is gearing up to face off against season point goliath Twin Turbo for the Annual Mocklin Fantasy Football Championships.  It was a long and tough season, but Team Ramrod has persisted on barrelling forward using the Brees+Colston combination to decimate opponents.  The beginning of the season was a bit rocky, I’m just glad that our guys are starting to finally produce at the right time.  I am also hoping that Chicago D/ST has a great game this weekend so we can justify our pick.  But once again, the true key to the game will be Drew & Marques!

Stay tuned for the results!

Oh, Team Ramrod is a FF Team made up of myself, Tony & Etienne if you didn’t know…

Fantasy Football

So I’m 1 for 2 in FF this year falling short of playoffs in one league and making the playoffs in another.  Seems every year something happens when I play in FEF with Belteau and the boys.  I made some poor choices in bench play coming down to the wire, but it was honestly hard to see through all the injuries.  Hoping I can make well in Mocklin’s league since that one is where the money is at.
