LSU’s Dismal Season

This season cannot end quick enough for the Bayou Bengal Faithful.  You might say I’m putting the cart before the horse with the Arkansas game looming after Turkey day, but if you think a win on Friday will leave a good taste in your mouth than you must be gnawing on Thursday’s leftovers.  This season was very tough on the boys in purple and gold, but what more did you expect after hearing we would have to start Freshmen quarterbacks with no SEC game experience.  This is the toughest conference in college football, and anyone who argues that really needs to quiet down.  To start freshman against teams like Florida, Georgia & Alabama this year was asking a lot of a 19 year old.  Jarrett Lee did not help the situation with all of the pick-sixes he’s thrown, but our defense has not looked that great either.  Neither has our ‘all-american offensive line’.  Who couldn’t open holes for Charles Scott on Saturday when Ole Miss populated the line with 6 players.

The worst part of all of this are the LSU fans that are so spolied with the LSU system for the past few years.  These bandwagon fans who have only tuned in since the 2003 season need to calm down.  Especially the ones who constantly call for Les Miles to get fired.  Did we not win a National Championship last year with this man at the helm?  Do you people even think before you speak?

Since there is nothing that I can do, I’m just holding out for next season.  Maybe during the off-season our team can watch a lot of film and figure out what went wrong on both sides of the ball during the 2008 season.

GL Friday Tigers… I’ll be watching…

LSU Fails as Saints Persevere

Was a tough weekend if you are an LSU Football Fan, and it was a good weekend if you are a New Orleans Saints fan.

The Tigers had another defensive fallout against an SEC school by letting the Georgia Bulldogs put 52 on the board in their defeat Saturday night in Death Valley.  That makes 103 total points allowed by the Tigers this year between Georgia and Florida.  Jarrett Lee once again made poor decisions, maybe he would do better if all of the recievers had cups of beer on their heads and he could toss ping pong balls.  I have not seen poor decisions like these since Josh Booty, and we all know how that debacle played out.

The defensive secondary of the Tigers makes the Saints secondary look good, as Georgia (and Florida) completed long third downs, impossible silly pass routes, and wide open air grabs.  This team has a lot of work to do before Tulane, because the way they are playing now I’d be hard pressed to say Tulane won’t throw a couple of TD’s over them.  And I do not even want to start thinking about Nick Satan and the Alabama Crimson Flow yet…

On Sunday the Saints managed to outrace the San Diego Chargers in Wembley stadium (as a home game once again).  Let’s just kiss the ground that Drew Brees walks on right now, because without him the Saints would be sunk.  And after all this illegal substance stuff clears, we could be without three important players…

NCAA Power Rankings

I really enjoy reading the ESPN power rankings before the start of every College football season, so I can return and see how close these writers are to the truth when the season ends.  I mostly agree with the rankings this year, which have LSU at 9 in the power rankings, and I also wholeheartedly agree with Georgia being number 1.  They have a great team, and youth is on their side as they bring back nearly their entire team from last year.  Let’s just hope that on October 25th they step into Tiger Stadium with a little less swagger.  I’m sure that they will use that game as a gauge on why they were not playing for the National Championship last year (even if it is an entirely different team).

LSU has an uphill battle with likely starter Andrew Hatch who in his Sophomore year only threw two passes in regulation last year.  This in my opinion is the keystone to our season.  I think our wide outs, running backs & special teams will be as they have been for years at LSU.  The defense looks shiny and new and we’ll have to see what the new defensive backs are capable of, but we’ll probably have to wait unitl the Troy game on September 6th to see any true deep passing quarterbacks.

Let’s hope that this team will be like years previous, and let us have something to look forward to during the bowl weeks!

Dogs Bite Warriors in BCS Sugar Bowl

The Georgia Bulldogs went to bat for the SEC and the rest of the college nation that actually plays viable opponents last night and gave the Hawaii Warriors an ‘on the chin’ welcome to the South.  Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan, who is apparently every sportscaster’s golden boy, threw for just 169 yards with 3 interceptions.  He was pulled off the field by trainers after a short injury time out to never return and hold his head in his hands on the sideline.  The Georgia defense held the NCAA leading scoring defense to only 10 points, using 6 sacks and 3 interceptions to fuel the steamroller.

I’ll give it to Hawaii for showing up, but it was getting a little old hearing them try to bide for a BCS championship.  The Georgia faithful at the dome last night chanting overrated to Hawaii was a little harsh, but it’s SEC football so what do you expect.

One topic which really interests me is the talk of Georgia fans and players feeling ‘robbed’ for not playing for the National Championship.

Georgia safety Kelin Johnson, “We’re No. 1, and we’re supposed to be in the national championship game. The nation knows it, everyone knows it.”

Georia Linebacker Marcus Washington, “We’re the best in the land. We should be playing next week.”

Everyone feels that their team is No. 1 in the country after a bowl win, I guess they are of the type that think since they don’t play for their conference championship they should be able to play for the big game?  Start playing for conference championships first, then talk about how you got ‘bamboozled’ playing in the Sugar Bowl.
